History
Sree Ayyankali Memorial Govt. Model Residential Sports School (SAMGMRS School) was established by Govt. of Kerala in 2002-03, by converting previously constituted sports hostels functioning under S.C. Development Department since the academic year 1990-91, for the benefit of students of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories who excel in sports and games. The school started functioning in the campus of the K A U College of Agriculture at Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram as per the MoU signed with the Agricultural University.

It was a remarkable achievement that such a school could be realized in the name of the great social reformer Mahatma Ayyankali, who took great effort in the betterment of a class of people who were socially, economically and educationally backward.

The school started functioning with classes from 5th standard to 10th standard. The institution was upgraded to the status of Higher Secondary School in 2008-09.  Now, the school has one division each from 5th standard to plus two level with a maximum strength of 30 students in each division. In the total sanctioned intake of 240 number of students, the SC, ST ratio is maintained as 2:1 and the boys, girls ratio as 1:1.

Presently school functions with batches from 5th standard to 12th level (One division each) with a maximum strength of 30 students in each division.
